La Niña de Guatemala

In November 2019, Colectiva Las Niñas de Guatemala was invited by Mujeres Transformando el Mundo (MTM) to El Estor, Izabal, to establish initial contact and document the first impressions of the women’s groups with whom the project Jornada de Expresión y Movimiento would later be developed.

Through holistic workshops offered to these groups, a collaborative force emerged—one that aligned with MTM’s political advocacy and legal struggle. The process led to powerful outcomes, including a socio-political song and a music video titled La Niña de Guatemala. This artistic creation illuminates the challenges women face in the country as they fight for dignity, reparations, and access to justice.

The initiative took shape as an intergenerational gathering, uniting the women of Sepur Zarco, Achi women, Ixil women, and their daughters and granddaughters.

Aimed at empowerment and healing, the project strengthened participants’ connections to their bodies and inner selves through expression and movement—allowing them to emerge from the experience with renewed energy and the power of dance.
