Our Story

Colectiva Las Niñas de Guatemala visibilizes the contributions of artists to society. Through our unique disciplines and methodological artistic proposals, we create opportunities for healing and learning processes within a collective framework.

We work collectively on a holistic artistic project where music, vibrations, sound, nature, history, and the embodied wisdom of Indigenous nations converge as vehicles to make critical realities visible.

Central to this project is co-creation with diverse groups of women, who serve as our inspiration. Through these collaborations, we expand the coverage of topics relevant to girls and women and amplify their stories. We firmly believe in the healing and transformative power of art. Therefore, we emphasize artistic exploration in public spaces and the creation of political art.

The growing interest in public art has given rise to new experiences within society, generating fresh approaches to creation, contribution, conceptualization, and the visibility of artistic practices—interconnected with processes of healing, transformation, and political activism.

Colectiva Las Niñas de Guatemala represents the intersection of art and politics.

We are a anti-racist collective.

MISSION

Our mission is to contribute to the awareness, prevention, healing, and eradication of all forms of gender-based violence against girls, adolescents, and women in Guatemala through the implementation of artistic exploration and collective creation that facilitates empowerment tools. These tools help girls, adolescents, and women express messages of reclamation and advocate for their rights.

VISION

We envision a world where Guatemalan girls, adolescents, and women have the tools to confront the structures of systemic patriarchy and achieve collective empowerment through the arts.

Our projects

La Niña de Guatemala

In November 2019, Colectiva Las Niñas de Guatemala was invited by Mujeres Transformando El Mundo (MTM) to El Estor, Izabal, to meet and document the women recipients of the project “Day of Expression and Movement”

Echar Andar

Women’s bodies in this country have become wounded territories marred by violence. Everyday life and its social dynamics have reached irrational levels of incoherence. Sexual violence against girls, adolescents, young women, and adult women has become a systemic reality that is normalized and perpetuated.

Es Mi Derecho

For this project, we developed a methodological proposal for exploration and collective artistic creation. Through this approach, participants are supported in discovering and connecting with their bodies, emotions, thoughts, and creativity. A diverse group of artists from different fields accompany the participants, guiding them in the collective creation of an artistic piece with a specific message that contributes to the fight for women’s sexual and reproductive rights.

Es Mi Derecho incidencia En La Plaza de Las Niñas

The exhibition held at the Plaza de las Niñas (Girls’ Square) on November 25 had a profound impact on the organizations that convened to mobilize and witness the performance. It marked the beginning of the activities planned for the day for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, November 25th.

Destilando Morado y Verde

Destilando Morado y Verde is an artistic and political performance that stands against the 59-40 initiative, which supposedly protects children and adolescents against gender identity disorders, and the 9-2022 law, which declared Guatemala the pro-life capital of Latin America.
